Why are there not more electric vehicles on your road?
The first thing is energy density.
Compared by weight and volume, a battery can't hold as much energy as gasoline or diesel. So an electric car will either have a lot less range, or be a lot heavier than a gas/diesel car.
The next thing is recharging time.
With a liquid fuel car you can fill the tank up in minutes, and then be ready to go hundreds of miles. With an electric vehichle, charging the battery takes hours.
The third thing is charging stations.
Liquid fuels you can find at any number of gas stations, but elelctric charging stations are real rare. Most people would only be able to recharge at home. A lucky few would be able to charge at work too.
The fourth thing is where to get the electricity from.
If you're in a place where you get your electricity from coal-fired power plants, then an electric vehicle would still basically be running on fossil fuels.
And if electric vehicles became real commonplace, then we'd need to make a lot more electricity to keep up with demand.
