My son was charged with domestic battery last month & his court date is coming up (in IL). Does he ask for a public defender at that court date, or do they automatically appoint one? Does he have to plead with no attorney at that time? We have no idea how these things work, or what to expect. He spent 2 days in jail & was then released with a paper with court date on it.
