If i dont return car can i be arrested?
Not returning a vehicle to it's rightful owner leaves you subject to auto theft charges, arrest, and jail time.
This is not necessarily true, every state is different. I was an idiot and took someones car for a test drive, he took my car, we were supposed to trade for a day. It has been 2 weeks now! I have called the police, they came out to my house and there is absolutely nothing they can do since I let him take my car. I asked at what point of him not giving me my car back does this become theft, again, nothing they could do. They said this was a civil agreement and I can take him to civil court. I am in the state of Oregon by the way, recently moved here from California and I'm sure that California laws are different...this should be considered theft but is not. :(
