I will file a civil complaint in a supreme court as pro se litigant. Do I have to go to the clerk's office in person or can I ask somebody (a process server, etc.) to go and file and get an index number for me?

Retain a reputable process server to purchase an index no., serve the summons and complaint and file the affidavit of service.
