Question

I have an adult nephew by ex-marriage that's like a son to me. We both live in Florida (not together). Known him since he was 7 and he's 41 now. He's been estranged from his biological father all his adult life. Father used to beat him. Mother left him when he was 3 years old. He's married, has two children. Can I legally adopt him as my 'son'? No rights, no claims, no name change, etc. Just to be able to legally say he's my adopted son.

Answer

Yes you can adopt an adult person. You have to go through the court process.

Use of a lawyer is recommended.
