I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it triggered the Monstar Virus, because it bit him.

EDIT :: The dragonfly in the Amory Wars is actually an insect/machine hybrid; it is a dragonfly bred with a syringe that is called, naturally, the syringa. To initiate the Monstar virus, a compound named the Cache serum must be introduced to the Beast's bloodstream. The syringa accomplishes this by stinging Coheed. (edit by JessKilgannon)
