How do you connect in left 4 dead?
It would help to know what you're connecting to, and on what console. But assuming you're talking about online play, if you have the correct permissions etc... just simply start up the game and when you're at the main menu, select "Campaign" or "Versus". These game modes plus other downloaded content are online play.
As for actually connecting to online, you need to specify your question.
