Is the X Factor an insult to television?

Is the X Factor an insult to television?
Many people enjoy watching the X Factor as they like to either see people humiliating themselves (generally in the auditions) or they like to keep on top of the latest music, and if a contestant becomes famous or successful (e.g. JLS, Leona Lewis) then they like to be able to recall where they came from and be with them from the start.

However many people (i'm guessing including you) think that the X Factor is annoying or boring, simply because they do not have the same opinions as people that like it. I wouldn't say it was 'an insult to television', as that is simply a matter of opinion.
