What important job does a woodchuck have in the beginning of February?
One particular Woodchuck is Punxsutawney Phil is used to determine whether spring will come early. Was this answer useful?YesSomewhatNoThanks for the feedback! Edit Answer byDavid Minott Confidence votes 580 I don't know how important this is, but woodchucks (or groundhogs) are used to predict the length of winter by observing their shadow when they emerge from their burrow.
If they see their shadow, winter will last for another six weeks.
Checking back over many years, it appears that they are only correct about 40% of the time! This means that you would probably be more accurate than a woodchuck!!
Bottom line: Punxsutawney Phil has had a 39% accuracy rate regarding his early spring/late winter forecasts.
