Question

I inherited property from my father and my step grandfather has a legal life estate on it. He thinks he owns the property and now is doing things to it , like taring up driveways and turning off water. He and his daughter live there and he seems to think she can live there for free and he owns this house. Can he take this property from me or is it mine when he dies?

Answer

If he has a life estate and you have the remainder interest, then the property is yours when he dies. Even though he has a life estate right now, he still must take care of the property. He may be liable for any damage.
