Question

My employer terminated me with the reason of manipulating numbers. There are hundreds of people with access to that report but I was the one singled out. My assistant stated to one of my employees that I told him that I turned in my GM and thats how I got my position and he did the same thing. He set me up and they have no evidence to back their claim. Do I have a case here? He is also going around saying that he saw me stealing from the company on video which is an outrageous claim.

Answer

You are going to have several issues: obtaining unemployment (they will say they terminated you due to misconduct) and obtaining future employment (theft on your employment record is a big problem. If you didn't manipulate numbers and/or steal and the company tells third parties that this is what you did, you will have a claim for defamation.
