Are the lights on a visor for a pick-up truck legal to have on while driving?
Yes there should not be any conflict with local law enforcement for DOT Lighting on the truck visor!
Providing the lights are Amber in Color and not brighter than typical car or truck park or tail lights!
Another View: I understand the question NOT to be referring to any DOT-type lighting, but to refer to the built-in visor lights that are similar to the map-reading lights in automobiles.
In that case, since the two are virtually identical - and since they are supplied by the manufacturer - their usage while the vehicle is in operation SHOULD be lawful, PROVIDING they have not been altered.
HOWEVER - If, in the opinion of an officer, the light(s) constitute a hazard and an impediment to the safe operation of the truck during the hours of darkness, their usage COULD present a hazardous situation. The officer would have to present convincing testimony in court to prove his case, but it IS possible. Anything that in and of itself is lawful, can be misused in an unlawful manner.
